Dr. Adil Bushnak is a global water authority in the field of water desalination and water reuse. He led private Saudi efforts to commercialize the use of direct seawater for irrigation to produce food crops. He continues to invest time and resources to provide balanced solutions for the water-food-energy nexus.
Dr. Bushnak established Water & Environmental Service Co (“WESCO”) to develop private desalination plants and help owners of existing plants to upgrade and improve the performance of their plants. He also established Advanced Technical Equipment Import Company (“ATEICO”) to supply and service specialized industrial equipment. In partnership with Saudi Industrial Services Co., Dr. Bushnak co-founded Kindasa Water Services (“KINDASA”), the first privately owned seawater desalination plant in Jeddah Port. Dr. Bushnak was actively involved in the establishment of the International Desalination Association ("IDA") and was later elected its President for the period 1987-1989.Dr. Bushnak continues to serve as a Director of IDA
Dr. Bushnak was appointed by Saudi government in several public boards and councils including the Advisory Board of the Supreme Economic Council, Military Industries General Corporation, Medina Government Council and the Medina Water & Sewerage Authority.
Dr. Bushnak founded Jeddah Water & Power Forum. He served as a Director of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industries for 8 years. He co-founded several NGO’s and works to establish public trust funds to serve Makkah & Medina regions as well as Balkan countries.
Dr. Bushnak earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan and M.S. and B.S. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
